Heroin worth Rs. 10 crore seized

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Two alleged drug peddlers have been arrested with 10 kg of fine quality heroin on G.T. Karnal Road here by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The heroin appears to be of Afghani origin and is worth about Rs. 10 crore in the international market.

Acting on a tip-off that two residents of Gurdaspur in Punjab were on their way to the Capital to supply heroin to one of their African clients, the NCB sleuths laid a trap and arrested them on Tuesday.

During interrogation, one of the accused identified himself as Ravinderpal Singh, a primary school teacher. He claimed that he also worked as a physical training instructor in Amritsar jail. During his visits to the jail, he allegedly came in contact with drug traffickers lodged there and at their instance he began ferrying drugs.

His accomplice has been identified as Vikramjit Singh. The NCB officials suspect that the two have been peddling drugs for the past several months. They are verifying their disclosures and are trying to trace the person to whom they were to deliver the consignment. The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
