NEW DELHI: Four men allegedly committed robbery in the house of a businessman at Krishna Nagar here in broad daylight on Monday. The robbers allegedly made off with over Rs. 1 lakh in cash besides gold and diamond jewellery. Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Harsh Vardhan, a doctor by profession, runs a clinic in the ground floor of the building. According to the police, 18-year-old Ajay Paswan, the domestic help of businessman Pawan Gupta, along with his three accomplices came to the house on Monday afternoon, tied up the other two servants and decamped with the valuables. Mr. Gupta, his wife and other members of the family were away at work. “Ajay Paswan and his unidentified accomplices tied up the two male domestic helps and made off with cash and jewellery. Mr. Gupta’s 80-year-old mother, Saraswati Devi, was also present in the house, but she had no inkling of the robbery. It is a big house and Ms. Saraswati Devi was sitting in the drawing room when the four committed the robbery,” said a police officer. Mr. Gupta had employed Ajay, of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, a couple of months ago on the recommendation of one his acquaintances and not got his verification done, the police officer said, adding that a team was being despatched to Bihar to arrest the accused. Mr. Gupta runs a printing and packaging firm.
