Jaipal Reddy promises more help for metro rail project

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy has assured that the Centre would positively consider the Government’s plea for providing more financial assistance for the proposed metro rail project in the twin cities.

The Central Government has earlier approved a grant of Rs. 1,639 crore for Hyderabad Metro Rail project towards 20 per cent of the total project cost of Rs. 8,482 crore under the ‘viability gap funding’ scheme.

More funds

Rest of the 60 per cent is to be raised by the private Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT) developer and the State Government.

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy met Mr. Jaipal Reddy in New Delhi on Tuesday and sought more funds from the Centre and beyond the 20 per cent grant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Scheme (JNNURM) considering the Government was spending a considerable amount for land acquisition.
