KOCHI: Families whose land has to be acquired for the four-lane highway of the proposed Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal, and who have not yet accepted the price fixed by the district purchase committee will have time till June 30 to accept the price and give their consent to acquisition, Ernakulam Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish told reporters here on Tuesday. The effort is to speed up the land acquisition process for laying the 15-km highway linking Vallarpadam and Kalamassery. Among the 608 families whose land will have to be acquired for the highway, 350 have already accepted the land price fixed by the district purchase committee, while the rest are yet to accept it. The Collector said that if the families refused to accept the price it would be construed that they were receptive to the acquisition of land under the Land Acquisition Act, in which case they would get only half the amount now fixed by the purchase committee. If they refused to accept this price as well, then the district administration would acquire the land after depositing with the court the amount equivalent to the price of the land calculated under the Land Acquisition Act, he said.
