Congress leaders asked to come to Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Congress has asked its Chief Ministers, Legislature Party leaders and presidents to come to the Capital to fine-tune the party’s strategy for the Presidential elections.

The Chief Ministers and CLP leaders have been called to sign Pratibha Patil’s nomination in time for her to file the papers on Saturday., They along with the PCC presidents will meet her on Thursday evening. The entire Congress Working Committee will also be present .

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi is criss-crossing the country to secure the signatures of the members of the United Progressive Alliance constituents for Ms. Patil’s nomination.

Meanwhile, the number of nominations for the Presidential election rose to eight on Wednesday with T. Shanmukhappa Hemagirinilaya of Davangere in Karnataka filing his papers.

While he has attached a copy of the electoral roll and deposited the requisite money, there were no proposers or seconders, according to a release issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
