Vehicle-lifter gang busted

ANANTAPUR: The Central Crime Station police arrested a five-member inter-State gang, allegedly involved in lifting two-wheelers, here on Wednesday when they were taking the vehicles for disposal in Kurnool. Another member of the gang, a constable of the APSP 2nd battalion, was still at large.

Anantapur Deputy Superintendent of Police G.S. Karunakar told newspersons that the gang had stolen 13 two-wheelers in Bellary and Pavagada areas of Karnataka and also in Anantapur district. Fearing that they would be caught if the vehicles were disposed in Anantapur, the gang was taking them to Kurnool for disposal.

The arrested were Challa Laxminarayana (25), gang leader, of G.Kothapalli in Rapthadu mandal, Bangaru Ramesh (21), V. Ramana (21), V. Veeranjaneyulu (20) and Dandu Keshava Reddy (23), all from Rampuram village of Kanaganapalli mandal.

A constable of the APSP 2nd battalion Narendranath Chowdary was also a gang member.
