NCB trying to trace the person to whom the accused were to deliver the consignment NCB officials suspect that the two have been peddling drugs for the past several months
NEW DELHI: Two alleged drug peddlers have been arrested with 10 kg of fine quality heroin on G.T. Karnal Road here by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The heroin appears to be of Afghani origin and is worth about Rs. 10 crore in the international market. Acting on a tip-off that two residents of Gurdaspur in Punjab were on their way to the Capital to supply heroin to one of their African clients, the NCB sleuths laid a trap and arrested them on Tuesday. During interrogation, one of the accused identified himself as Ravinderpal Singh, a primary school teacher. He claimed that he also worked as a physical training instructor in Amritsar jail. During his visits to the jail, he allegedly came in contact with drug traffickers lodged there and at their instance he began ferrying drugs. His accomplice has been identified as Vikramjit Singh. The NCB officials suspect that the two have been peddling drugs for the past several months. They are verifying their disclosures and are trying to trace the person to whom they were to deliver the consignment. The accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Meanwhile a 30-year-old man has been arrested at New Lajpat Rai Market here for allegedly being in possession of fake currency worth Rs. 10,000. According to the police, Sikender Ansari purchased a T-shirt from a hawker in the market on Monday and gave him a fake Rs. 500 note. The hawker reported the matter to a constable on patrol duty. The constable frisked Ansari and allegedly seized 19 more fake notes of Rs. 500 denomination each. During interrogation, he purportedly told the police that he had procured the currency from one Jameel.
