Thiruvananthapuram: Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan said on Wednesday that the Government was working on a project to strengthen the micro finance programme in the country. Inaugurating a regional workshop on ‘Graduating Self Help Groups from micro credit to micro enterprises,’ he said India’s micro finance programme was becoming one of the largest in the world. “Two million households in India and 20 million women representing 1.4 million SHGs have received micro credit. The programme promoted micro entrepreneurship among women and encouraged them to contribute to national income. In the process they also created a reliable social security net. They got a chance to become agents of change,” he said. The Minister said Kudumbasree units in Kerala were the best example of successful micro entrepreneurship. Pannian Ravindran, MP, presided over the function.
