Eight dengue cases confirmed

Four suspected cases in district

One suspected malaria case
31 chikungunya cases on Wednesday

Thiruvananthapuram: More dengue cases have been reported in the district with the laboratory confirmation of eight serum samples that had been collected earlier. Four fever cases reported on Wednesday are also suspected to be dengue.

This apart, one case of ‘imported’ malaria and 31 fever cases suspected to be chikungunya were also reported from the district on Wednesday. The malaria case was reported from Pozhiyoor, the patient having contracted it after a trip to Mangalore.

So far, 532 suspected cases of chikungunya and 98 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in the district this year. The dengue cases, which had been on a low till May, went up following pre-monsoon showers.

Dengue has been endemic in the district for quite a few years now, mostly from the Corporation area. Over 60 per cent of the total dengue case load in the State is being reported from Thiruvananthapuram since the past three or four years now.

Of the eight confirmed cases of dengue, five are of children under treatment at SAT hospital. They are Anas (9) of Kattayikonam, Dohin Das (13) of Kattakkada, Preethi (8) of Cheriyakonni, Yesudas (11 months) of Puthiyathura and Hannah (3) of Nedumangad. Three cases confirmed were from Venjaramood, Medical College and Kattakkada.

Suspected chikungunya cases were reported from Manambur, Vellanad, Vellarada, Perumkadavila, Nedumangad, Neyyattinkara and Attingal. Seven medical camps were conducted, which were attended by 1,478 patients. Of these 144 reported with fever. Camps will be held at Poovachal and Shanghumughom on Thursday.
