Intercity Express

Intercity Express running from Bangalore to Coimbatore has been extended to Ernakulam from June 4.

The once prestigious train has become insignificant and redundant overnight by the extension. People from important cities en route used to travel by this train in comfort. The train had nine to 10 reserved chair cars besides four to five unreserved compartments. Nearly 200 to 500 people used to board the train or get down from it at Hosur daily. This is the only express train passing through Hosur in the day.

The train now has only two reserved chair car compartments besides a few unreserved coaches but has more sleeper coaches. Who wants sleeper coaches in the day time? Have the railway authorities deliberately introduced these coaches to earn more income inconveniencing passengers? What was the necessity to extend the train to Ernakulam when it was earning a good revenue? Recently I travelled in the train from Hosur to Tirupur and back.

Passengers’ chart was not displayed on the compartments causing inconvenience to the travellers.

Ticket examiners too were not to be seen. The new train does not have a pantry car which the earlier train had. I hope the railways will maintain the status quo.

Restore bus

Bus route number 22A which used to run between Sugarcane Breeding Institute and Chinniampalayam via Seeranaickenpalayam, Lawley Road, Saibaba Colony, Gandhipuram and Peelamedu has been stopped for unknown reasons. Residents of Seeranaickenpalayam, a populated suburb of the city, have to take two buses to go to Gandhipuram - one to places like Lawley Road, R.S. Puram and P.N.Pudur and another one to Gandhipuram.

Those who go to Peelamedu or SITRA have to take three buses.

While most of the places in the city suburbs are connected by direct buses to Gandhipuram, the residents of Seeranaickenpalayam are deprived of this service. Those from Seeranaickenpalayam who want to go to Gandhipuram and Peelamedu often have to walk about two km to board a bus at P.N.Pudur. The transport authorities would do well to restore 22A at the earliest.

K. Sivaraj,

Seeranaickenpalayam.

Teachers’ vacancies

I thank the Minister for Higher Education for filling up vacancies in the government colleges in the state.

Association of University Teachers has urged the government fill up vacancies in the aided colleges in the state.

It seems the Government does not fill the required vacancies according to colleges.

Hence the existing teachers have to run the show with insufficient staff.

This is a great injustice to students.

I request the Minister for Higher Education to sanction the required teaching posts in aided colleges in the state. Association of Principals of Aided Colleges and Association of Private Managements in the State should take up the issue of sanction of required vacancies with the Minister for Higher Education.

N.R. Ravisankar,

Vilankurichi.

Hotel cleanliness

Recently, I bought five cheese pizzas from a well-known eatery in Gandhipuram.

When I reached home I noticed that the top cover (paper) had got stuck with the pizzas.

I contacted the shop which replaced all of them with fresh ones.

Again, I ordered north Indian subziz from another well-known hotel.

While pouring the panner butter masala subzi into a vessel, I noticed a one-inch long iron nail.

I contacted the manager who asked me to deliver the contents.

Even recognised eateries do such mistakes and people should be aware of this. Government health officials should check cleanlines in hotels and take stern action against owners who flout norms.
