Indian ‘specialists’ board U.S. ship
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The U.S. Navy has taken on board “Beleliu” a group of Indian Army and Navy “specialists” for a three-month multinational “humanitarian” tour of the South East Asia - Oceania region.
The Indian team, comprising doctors, a veterinarian, engineers and support staff, boarded the U.S. vessel in Manila this week. “Beleliu” will make port calls at the Philippines, Marshall Islands, Vietnam and Papua and New Guinea where it will attend to patients and undertake minor construction activity.
With a gynaecologist among the doctors, the Indian team would largely focus on public health.
