12 die in fighting

COLOMBO: At least three soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army and nine cadres of the Tamil Tigers were killed in continuing fighting between the military and the LTTE in the north and east.

The Defence Ministry alleged that the terrorists exploded a claymore mine targeting an Army vehicle transporting food items at Chundikkulam in Jaffna on Thursday evening in which three soldiers were killed and another was seriously injured.

It claimed that nine more LTTE cadres were killed in separate clashes erupted in Vavuniya in the north and Batticaloa in the east.
