Attacks on fishermen condemned

Puducherry: The Meenavar Viduthalai Vengaigal will stage a demonstration here on June 26 to condemn the “sustained attacks” on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lanka naval forces and its fishermen. Convener of the organisation R. Mangayarselvan said in a release here on Thursday that the Centre should ensure that the interests of Indian fishermen are safeguarded.

He called upon the Tamil Nadu Government to distribute Rs.5 lakh to each of the families of fishermen killed and Rs.2 lakh for those injured in the attack. — Special Correspondent
