Top stars in the fray

Mumbai: Members used to the pleasure of watching exciting cricket matches at the MIG Club, Bandra, will now get a chance to see India’s top snooker stars match their wits in the inaugural Rs. 2.50 lakh prize money snooker tournament from June 27 to 30.

Yasin Merchant, a finalist in the recent Asian snooker championship at Karachi, Alok Kumar, Manan Chandra, Geet Sethi and several other players would vie for the winner’s prize of Rs. 60,000 in the four-day event, sponsored by the MIG Club and Nahar Group.

The tournament should generate much interest as the likes of Aditya Mehta, Devendra Joshi, Ashok Shandilya, Kamal Chawla, Sarang Shroff, Rupesh Shah, Sourav Kothari, Rishabh Pandya, Shrava Mohta, Brijesh Damani and D. Raj Kumar will figure in the main draw.

The runner-up will take home Rs. 35,000, the semifinalists Rs. 20,000 and the quarterfinalists Rs.11,000. — Special Correspondent
