McInnes tipped to take over

Melbourne: John Buchanan’s right hand man Richard McInnes was likely to take over as Bangladesh’s coach, reports said here on Thursday. McInnes seemed the favourite to succeed Dav Whatmore, having coached Bangladesh at the under-19 and ‘A’ levels from 2003 to 20005.

“I know first-hand what it is like over there and I’ve had a lot to do with Bangladesh cricket,” McInnes was quoted as saying by Herald Sun.

“I have had discussions with them after Dav (Whatmore) resigned (in April) and, of course, I would love the challenge.

“Their results indicate they are becoming a lot more consistent and other teams won’t take them lightly any more. Some of their young players, with some more experience, will become very good international cricketers.” Whatmore was a front-runner for the Pakistan role, along with two other Australians — former Australian Test bowler Geoff Lawson and ICC High Performance Manager Richard Done. — PTI
