VIJAYAWADA: Rain played spoilsport as the match between Everest CC and South Central Railway in the Katragadda Madhusudhana Rao memorial KDCA ‘A’ division cricket league was called off on Thursday. Batting first, Everest CC made 154 in 33.2 overs with Imran (36) and Raheem (35) contributing. In reply, SCR was 37 without loss in six overs when rain prevented further play. Olympic run The Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association will organise an Olympic Run under the supervision of the Krishna District Athletic Association on Friday. Hundreds of youngsters from Kantrika, Rajeev Nagar and Payakapuram areas are expected to participate and the run will conclude at Makineni Basavapunniah Stadium at Singhnagar at 10 a.m. The Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner, Natarajan Gulzar, will be the chief guest. Vijayawada’s Lalith Babu and Guntur’s Meher Chinna Reddy were selected to participate in the National ‘A’ chess championship following their performances in the National ‘B’ championship, which concluded at Dindugal (TN) recently. Both the players garnered nine points each from 13 rounds. The Krishna District Chess Association President, P.V. Nageswara Rao, and Secretary, P. Srihari, congratulated both the players. Two Sports Authourity of India coaches — Anjani Kumari (gymnastics) and Kondala Rao (athletics) — were transferred to Vijayawada from Guntur and Medak respectively. Both coaches are attached to the National Sports Talent Contest Centre at the V.P. Siddhartha Public School. APSS selections
Over 25 boys and girls from Krishna District took part in the two-day selection trials for admission into Andhra Pradesh Sports Schools (APSS) at Hakimpet, Karimnagar and Kadapa, under the supervision of APSS observer C. Srinivas, a gymnastic coach. Youngsters from Nuzvid, Gudivada, Machilipatnam and Vijayawada participated in the trials. The trials will conclude on Friday.
