Cusat Open all-India chess

KOCHI: The 19th Cusat Open all-India FIDE-rated chess tournament begins at the Cochin University’s School of Management Studies Hall here on Sunday.

Over 200 players, including International Masters P. Konguvel, Saptharshi Roy, K. Ratnakaran and R.R. Laxman, will figure in the week-long event organised jointly by the Cusat Chess Club and the Cochin University Union.

The tournament carries a total prize money of Rs.1.25 lakhs, including a winner’s purse of Rs.15,000. There are also prizes for best players in various age groups and other categories. Olympian, Shiny Wilson, will inaugurate the tournament and Arjuna Awardee, Wilson Cherian, will be the chief guest. The Cusat Registrar, A. Ramachandran, will preside over the opening ceremony. — Principal Correspondent
