Leaf through for tourism details Tourism Trail

Highlighting achievements: ‘Ee Yatra Saphalam’ brought out by Kerala Tourism.

Kerala is the fastest growing tourist destination in the country.

Here, tourism is considered a sector that can help the State strive for socio-economic development and tackle unemployment.

Armed with the rich experience in the sector, including coming up with innovative tourism products, Kerala Tourism now plans to rope in local bodies to design and implement tourism projects.

For this innovative approach and planning at the grassroots level, people’s representatives such as Members of Parliament, legislators and those elected to the local bodies should be aware of the tourism sector of the State.

Achievements

Kerala Tourism has come up with a handbook ‘Ee Yatra Saphalam’ detailing the achievements of the tourism sector, on-going and future projects, guidelines for classifications, master plan for Munnar and contact numbers of tourism officials among other things.

“The books have been provided to legislators. Its contents include our projects in the last one year. It attempts to make the elected representatives get a pulse of what is going on in the tourism sector,” says Director of Tourism Sanjay M. Kaul.

The foreword mentions the 23.68 per cent increase in the arrival of foreign tourists and 5.47 per cent increase in domestic tourists’ arrival during 2006 and the initiative to implement responsible tourism practices.

From health tourism, classification of homestays, houseboats, souvenir industry, Vazhiyoram, garbage-free Kerala, dream season to farm tourism and the International Convention Centre Complex proposed at Akkulam do find mention in the book which is in Malayalam.

Setting up of Investment Promotion Cell to attract investment, single window clearance for tourism projects, decision to set up Information Centre at Kolkatta and Mysore and revamping of the District Tourism Promotion Councils figure among the achievements.

Projects that are under consideration of Kerala Tourism had also been listed.

The projects to be implemented during 2007-2008 by Kerala Tourism and Ecotourism projects under consideration along with contact address and telephone numbers of Minister for Tourism and other tourism officials are listed.
