ADILABAD: Sixteen milch animals from Nagalkonda village in Narnoor mandal died on June 20 evening, reportedly after consuming tender shoots of cotton which had residues of pesticides on them. Veterinarians who were quick to react could save the lives of six other animals that were also down with the symptoms of poisoning. According to Ganpat Rao, Assistant Director, Disease Investigation, the actual cause of the death of the animals would be known only after an analysis of the visceral and other samples taken from the dead was done by the Veterinary Biological Research Institute, Hyderabad. The animals were said to have been grazing in the fields in which cotton was sown some days back. The animals grazed on the two leaf shoots that had been sprayed with pesticides by the farmers. The animals were also reported to have consumed water from local streams.
