Demand authorities to supply drinking water

All for water: Women led by CPI (M) staging a protest with empty vessels in RWS office at Anantapur on Thursday.

ANANTAPUR: Women led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest on the premises of the Rural Water Supply Department Superintending Engineer’s office here on Thursday with empty vessels, demanding supply of drinking water to Prajashakti Nagar on the outskirts of the town.

Speaking at the protest, party leader A. Manohar said about 350 poor families were living in the colony for more than three years now but the Government had not provided them even drinking water facility. The problem was taken to the notice of the local legislator and MP several times but to no avail, he said.

When the residents questioned the visiting officials during Praja Patham in March they told the former that the legislator was pursuing the matter. Later, a borewell was sunk by the RWS Department but it was not fitted with a motor and electricity connection.

The women insisted that the SE should solve their problems. As the officer was out of station, assistant executive engineer Fayaz assured them that he would solve their problem with the cooperation of the village sarpanch by extending a pipeline from a nearby colony.
