Patna: Under opposition fire, the Bihar Minister for Rural Development Baidyanath Mahto on Thursday said the alleged irregularities committed in preparing the list of people living below the poverty line would be rectified soon. Mr. Mahto told reporters here that the BPL list would be rectified by July end and those involved in preparing the fake BPL list would be punished in accordance with the law. The Minister said Government officials had so far rectified the BPL list of 840 gram sabhas and effort were on to ‘update and rectify’ the BPL list of the remaining 7288 gram sabhas across the State. The Minister said the BPL list was being prepared with full transparency. Mr. Mahto said the NDA Government had so far spent Rs.718 crore under the National Rural Gurantee Scheme and had succeeded in creating 5.97 crore mandays since it came to power in Bihar over one-and half-years ago. The Government had set a target to bring the State on par with other developed states for which a number of measures had been undertaken, Mr. Mahto said, adding by 2015 Bihar would be vying with developed states. He said the Government was not getting required support of opposition leaders in rectifying the BPL list and said the State Government had initiated a number of measures to ameliorate the condition of people living below the poverty line. - PTI
