Kidnap-murder accused arrested

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A man who allegedly abducted a young boy at Motihari in Bihar and buried him “alive” this April has been arrested at the Old Delhi railway station here by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

At a press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) A. S. Cheema said a special team on Thursday received a tip-off that Manoj Singh, who was wanted in the kidnapping and murder of a boy from Motihari, would come to the Old Delhi railway station. A trap was laid and the accused arrested.

During interrogation, Manoj allegedly disclosed that in 2005, he had lent some money to a married woman in his village thinking she would not be able to repay the debt and taking advantage of that he would exploit her. He allegedly forced her to have an illicit relationship with him. However, their relatives came to know about it and had a fight with him. His wife also deserted him.

‘Threat’

When the victim refused to live with Manoj, he allegedly threatened to kill her and her relatives. He also allegedly threatened to kidnap her children. On the basis of the complaints lodged by the victim, the local police arrested him.

After his release on bail, Manoj and his accomplice Sanjay allegedly abducted the victim’s elder son Prince from a local market on April 14. The accused took the child to various places in Bihar to evade detection. When they realised that it was no more possible to hide the boy from the police, they allegedly made him consume cold-drink laced with some sedative. When the boy fell unconscious, they allegedly buried him in the bank of a river at Bhawanipur in Bihar on April 21.
