CHENNAI: The Chennai district unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has called for an immediate action to prevent pollution of the reservoir in Red Hills, which is the city’s prime source of drinking water.
In a press release, district secretary M. Veerapandian charged that the reservoir was being used by the local people for bathing, washing clothes and cattle.
Though the Government spent a sizeable amount of money on protection of waterbodies and health, the waterbody near the city was being polluted, Mr. Veerapandian said.
The authorities concerned and the Ministers must visit the reservoir and take measures to monitor and prevent the pollution, he said.
