NEW DELHI: In what appears to be a case of suicide pact, a businessman and his wife allegedly hanged themselves at their Defence Colony residence here on Thursday. The police have recovered suicide notes from the spot. The tragedy came to light in the evening when the domestic help of 50-year-old Sushil Beri, a businessman who reportedly dealt in coal, alerted the local police after her repeated knocks at the door did not elicit any response. Suicide notes recovered
When the door was broken open, Mr. Beri and his 40-year-old wife Madhu were found hanging from the ceiling. The police recovered a suicide note in which Mr. Beri purportedly said he was taking the extreme step because of the mental torture he was undergoing due to a case lodged against him by his first wife. In her suicide note, Ms. Beri allegedly wrote that she was depressed over her prolonged illness and was ending her life. The police said Mr. Beri’s son lives in neighbouring Gurgaon. While he and the other relatives of the deceased have been informed, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
