HYDERABAD: Vanaja, an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of irrigation, put her foot down when a large delegation of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) confronted her with a demand to go back to her native district as the State Government had decided to repatriate non-local employees. Taken aback by her response, TRS MLA Padma Devender Reddy and another woman activist held Ms. Vanaja’s chin in a bid to persuade her to come round to their view. But, Ms. Vanaja would not have any of it. All this happened amid the glare of a battery of cameras recording the ‘counselling’ by the TRS leaders for non-Telangana staff at ‘Jalasoudha’, the irrigation offices complex at Irrum Manzil. The party activists descended on the complex during the working hours and approached staff identified as non-locals. Ms. Vanaja firmly said she would not leave the city as she was well settled with her children admitted to good schools. The TRS leaders then walked away to another section in the office.
