Man held on theft charge

KOCHI: Najeeb, 34, of Palluruthy was arrested by the Ernakulam town central police on the charge of theft.

A police press release said Najeeb cut open the bag of a merchant, Varghese of Keezhillam, and stole Rs. 50,000 while travelling by bus on last Saturday morning. Varghese noticed the theft when he got down from the bus near Shenoy’s Theatre. He followed the bus with the help of a motorcyclist and stopped it near Jos Junction, but the accused had escaped. Later, Varghese identified him from photos kept at a police station.
