Two women robbed of gold chains Crime notes

BANGALORE: Motorcycle-borne men robbed two women of their gold chains estimated at Rs. 1.5 lakh, in separate incidents on Wednesday night.

The police said that around 8.30 p.m., two youths arrived on a motorcycle and enquired an address with Leela Kannan, who was feeding her child in front of her house in HSR Layout.

As Ms. Leela was talking to the two, one of them snatched her chain estimated at Rs. 35,000. On a complaint by Ms. Leela, the HSR Layout police have registered a case.

In the other incident, two motorcyclists snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 1.15 lakh from Jayamma in Indiranagar police station limits.

The police said that around 8 p.m., the two motorcyclists snatched the chain from Ms. Jayamma while she was returning home from a medical shop near Cauvery School at Indiranagar II Stage.

The Indiranagar police have registered a case.

Two killed

Two persons died in road accidents in the city on Wednesday night. Shanmuga (29) of Honnali in Davanagere district died on the spot after a lorry rammed the motorcycle he was riding pillion with his friend Naveen Kumar.

The accident occurred around midnight at Babusapalya in Banaswadi traffic police station limits. An injured Naveen Kumar had been admitted to hospital, the police said.

In the other accident, Peethambaram of Kalkere in Ramamurthynagar died after a motorcyclist knocked him down near HAL Quarters on Old Madras Road.

The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case. Investigation is on.

Woman ends life

Anuradha (22) committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Hosaguddadhahalli on Wednesday evening as her husband was allegedly torturing her for dowry.

The police said that Anuradha married Naveen Kumar, a private company employee, 15 months ago.

The Byatarayanapura police have registered a case and are investigating.

Memory chips seized

Officials of the Central Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested two youths who were allegedly selling multimedia memory chips after illegally loading movie songs and porno bits.

The police have seized computers, memory chips, card readers and other electronic goods, all estimated at Rs. 55,000, from C.K. Zubair (20) of Jayanagar and Zulfi (19) of Tilaknagar.

They were selling the pirated chips at their shops in 4th Block, Jayanagar, the police said.

Arrested

The High Grounds police on Wednesday arrested two persons who had allegedly assaulted a doctor and robbed him of a mobile phone.

The police said that around 9 p.m. on May 16, A. Jithendra (32) of Visveswarapuram and Kishore (42) of Uttarahalli waylaid Ravi Kumar on Race Course Road and snatched the phone from him.
