TNHB plans to evict encroachers

Staff reporter

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has announced that it will shortly initiate legal action against those using TNHB dwelling units illegally or encroaching upon its land.

Following a public interest litigation filed by an individual, the Supreme Court sometime ago directed the Board to evict 38 residents of TNHB’s rental units, who had used the premises illegally for an extended period of time. The Board had set a deadline for them to leave. A few of them had handed over their rental units. Those who had refused to leave were forcibly evicted with police assistance, according to a release.
