CHENNAI: Random numbers were allotted to candidates for admission to engineering courses at Anna University here on Thursday. Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan and Higher Education Secretary K. Ganesan participated in the event. Candidates can log on to www.annauniv.edu and choose Random Number Enquiry under the Results and Schedules column to find out their number. Allocation of seats
The random number will help to decide the allocation of seats in the event of a tie in scores. In the absence of the common entrance test, candidates seeking admission to engineering colleges with the same scores in their higher secondary examinations will be ranked depending on the marks in individual subjects, followed by the date of birth and the random number, Mr. Viswanathan said. Date of birth
Candidates’ scores in Mathematics and Physics, followed by the optional subject of Biology or Computer Science, would be considered in that order to break the tie. The date of birth, with preference to the older student, would be considered next. If the tie persisted, the random number would be considered. The candidate with the lower number would be given higher preference.
