PMK will strive to capture power in 2011, says Ramadoss

Special Correspondent

S. Ramadoss

Chennai: The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is preparing Vision 2020 to make Tamil Nadu self sufficient and self sustaining in all fields. It will be released soon.

As the party feels it will not be possible to achieve the vision without gaining power, it will strive to capture power in the State in the year 2011. It will be a coalition Government, but under the PMK leadership, said party founder S. Ramadoss here on Thursday.

Vision 2020 would showcase the party’s vision in politics, economics and social structure. However, the PMK leader was not ready to elaborate further on how his party would work towards its objective of gaining power in the State.

Cable operators

Coming down heavily on cable TV operators in the State, Dr. Ramadoss alleged they were operating like a “mafia gang, who are a law unto themselves.” They were not accountable to any agencies, and local bodies did not have control over them.

It was high time the Government took over cable operations in the State. The previous Government’s Bill to take over cable operations was good but unfortunately it was not implemented in a proper manner.

Dr. Ramadoss said he would soon write to the State Government on the issue. If necessary he would meet the Chief Minister and explain to him how the cable operators were fleecing TV viewing public in the State.

Reiterating his party’s support for Pratibha Patil in the presidential election, Dr. Ramadoss ruled out any change in the stand even if A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was fielded again. Mr. Kalam had earlier made it clear that he would not seek a second term. If he changed his stand now it was not proper.
