‘Balance needs to be struck between inflation and growth’
|
NEW DELHI: With the prices of cereals, pulses, marine fish, fruits and vegetables and certain manufactured products turning cheaper, the rate of inflation slipped to its 13-month low to 4.28 per cent for the week ended June 9 from 4.80 per cent in the previous week.
With this, it is for the third consecutive week that the inflation rate has remained below the five per cent mark mainly owing to the high base effect coupled with improvement in the supply of essentials.
In the same week a year ago, the wholesale price index-based inflation was pegged at 5.29 per cent.
Attributing the fall to tight monetary measures, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, however, noted that it was too early for any conclusion on the price situation.
