Services of KUWSDB staff sought

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY:The Bellary City Municipal Corporation has requested the Urban Development Department to depute technical hands from the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board(KUWSDB) for streamlining the supply of drinking water in the city.

Arvind Srivastav, Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of the Corporation, said that the services of the additional technical personnel was necessary to ensure proper supervision, distribution and regulation of drinking water supply.

According to him, water was being pumped daily from the two reservoirs and going by the quantum, drinking water should be supplied daily at the rate of around 170 litres per capita. But as of now water is being supplied only once in three days.

Loss

“Going by the quantum of water being pumped and yet not able to supply water daily, we got a water audit conducted and found that a lot of water is unaccounted for.

“On an estimate, the loss to the corporation, owing to unaccounted water, is around 1 lakh and steps have to be taken to prevent it by plugging the leakage and regulating the supply. We need technical hands for this and have asked the Urban Development Department to depute an Assistant Executive Engineer and two junior engineers for the purpose,” he said.

Mr. Srivastav said that he had asked the municipal staff looking after the water supply to divide the city region-wise and further sub-divide it into zones and sub-zones to ensure proper supply of drinking water.

Supervision

In addition to stepping up supervision, the valve operating personnel had been asked to maintain timings for supply of water in every locality in the city, Mr. Srivastav said.
