Bidar: Farmers have taken up sowing with Bidar district receiving good rainfall in the past few days. Officials of the Agriculture Department said that sowing had been completed in nearly 25 per cent of area targeted for cultivation. Till now, the district has received 143 mm of rainfall. The target for kharif cultivation in the district is 3.44 lakh hectares of land. Various grams will be grown in 1.54 lakh hectares of land, coarse grains in 92,000 hectares, oilseeds in 67,300 hectares, sugarcane in 29,500 hectares and cotton in 1,300 hectares of land. Jowar will be sown in 72,100 hectares, bajra in 8,500 hectares, paddy in 8,300 hectares, sauni in 900 hectares, maize in 500 hectares, and other crops in 800 hectares. Tur dal will be grown in 67,000 hectares, black gram in 44,500 hectares, green gram in 38,000 hectares, horse gram in 1,000 hectares, small bean and bean on 2,000 hectares each. Foodgrains and grams will be sown in 2.46 lakh hectares. Soya will be cultivated in 36,000 hectares, sunflower in 15,100 hectares, groundnut in 1,700 hectares, jatropha in 500 hectares, and other seeds in 6,500 hectares. Sugarcane will be grown in 29,500 hectares. Cotton will be cultivated in 1,300 hectares in Aurad taluk alone.
