New Delhi: India shocked defending champion Kazakhstan 22-25, 23-25, 38-36, 25-17, 15-11 in the second Asian Central Zone men’s volleyball championship in Islamabad. India seemed out for the count when it lost the opening two sets despite putting up a spirited effort. However, it stayed alive winning a marathon third set 38-36 which proved to be the turning point. The Indians then dominated the last two sets to script a memorablevictory in an hour and 45 minutes. The Indians showed improvement as the match progressed and displayed better blocking and timely reception. P.S. Srikanth and Mandeep Singh troubled the opposition. Pradeep, Gurchand and libero Sivarajan also came up with sterling performances.— PTI
