A perfect entertainer, especially for children

Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii (Hindi)

Director: Ken Ghosh

Cast: Rahul Bose, Zain Khan

The surprises continue this week. This time, a pleasant one. Ken Ghosh’s “Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii” is the kind of cinema children thirst for all summer long. It is a cute little story of a little boy from an orphanage who dreams of being the next Tendulkar. It is the story of Karan and it could have been the story of any child across the country.

Difference

What is different is that the child actually makes it! A bit of fantasy thrown in, some teen rivalry, some ache, and lo, “Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii” is ready.

Along the way, there are small lessons to be learnt, lessons about the value of parents, lessons on how humiliation should never be confused with humility, and the like. There is a nice hand by Rahul Bose as the captain of the Indian cricket team who guides the little boy. And a nice touch by Zain Khan as the child who dares to dream.

Small blemishes

There are small blemishes too: the cricket sequences are only a shade short of ignorant: we have fielders in slips and gully when the scoreboard shows 100-odd for no loss in a one-day international! We have the batsmen only hitting sixers!

Watch “Chain Kulli...” Despite its obvious drawback, it is among the more engaging and professionally handled children’s films.
