Going beyond the celluloid
Cinema seems quite the flavour of the year in the Malayalam publishing industry. Though it is the screenplays – of just about every film – that come out more often, occasionally books about cinema too get published. Kalathinte Kayyoppu edited by Anilkumar Thiruvoth and published by Olive Publications, Kozhikode, is one such book.
It is a compilation of articles about the film Kayyoppu, directed by Ranjith.
There are reviews about the film, interviews with the director, write-ups by the three lead artistes in the film (Mammootty, Khushboo and Mukesh), excerpts from the script as well as an interesting piece about a hilarious experience actor Murali Menon had a few days after the film was released. It is not filled with articles eulogising the film alone (though there are plenty of them).
The movie, Mammootty tells us in his article, was shot on a shoestring budget and in just 18 days.
