A blend of art forms

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: It will be a blend of different art forms combining the body language and movement of Bharatnatya with the Yaksha music. Connoisseurs of classical arts are in for a treat at Kalamandira in Mysore on Sunday when they will be presented this latest feature choreographed by noted danseuse Vasundhara Doraswamy.

The theme of the dance feature is “Panchali”, in which the danseuse plays the role of Draupadi, who is the central figure in the epic Mahabharatha.

New blend

This new blend, called “Yaksha-Bharata Sangama”, by Dr. Doraswamy presents the birth of Draupadi, her Swayamvara and wedding with the five Pandavas, followed by the well-known sequence of events including her entry into Hastinapura, the game of dice, the attempted disrobing of Draupadi, and Lord Krishna’s role in foiling the attempt.

Central theme

The central theme of the dance feature is how Panchali, who takes birth from the fire pit during the yaga to her end in the freezing ice of Himalayas, falls prey to the rivalry emerging in a male-dominated society.

The Yaksha Bharata Sangama is open to all and will commence from 6 p.m.
