Staff Reporter Collector gives away cash awards and medals to students

Tuticorin: Collector R. Palaniyandi gave away cash awards and medals to the district toppers in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary examinations held this year, at a function organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Friday evening.
The cash award was instituted by the V.V.D. Nithiyanandam’s Chamber Service Fund committee.
V. Maharasi ( Holy Cross Girls Higher Secondary School), who stood first in HSC examinations with a score of 1,170 marks out of 1,200 received Rs. 7,000 and a medal from the Collector.
S. Gowtham Sundar (Sakthi Vinayagar Hindu Vidhyalaya) and K. Sharmila Devi ( SPIC Nagar HSS), who shared the second position with 1,167 marks, got Rs. 2,000 each.
The third and fourth placed students received Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 respectively.
S. Balavidya (SPIC Nagar HSS), who stood first in the district in the SSLC examinations with 488 marks out of 500, received Rs. 2,000 and a medal. A. Leenal Mary (Holy Cross HSS), who stood second, got Rs. 1,000.
The candidates, who finished third and fourth, received Rs. 750 and Rs. 500 respectively.
The office-bearers of the chamber, T. Johnson and D.R. Kodeeswaran, and the chairman of fund committee, A.P.C.V. Chockalingam, among others, were present on the occasion.
