Health hazard: Garbage lying uncleared on Thiru.Ve.Ka Road in Surampatty municipal area. —
ERODE: Garbage has piled up in many wards of Surampatty Grade Municipality, which is a suburb of Erode.
Heaps of garbage were lying uncleared in every street for days together. The residents have appealed to the ward councillors to take steps to clean the same. Some people without waiting for the councillors and the municipality, are burning garbage piled up near their houses.
The councillors held demonstration twice to clear the garbage and also appealed to the municipal Chairman to appoint more sanitary staff for the cleaning operation. The Chairman, Loganathan, said that there was no proper place to dump garbage. He stated that already dumper bins were provided at important places. He said that some residents do not use the bin and throw waste on the street, which scatters all over the place.
Some days ago garbage was loaded into four tractors and taken to Lakkapuram area to dump it in a private land. But the villagers protested against the move. So, the tractors were sent back to Surampatty. Mr. Loganathan said within a month’s time a suitable site would be purchased for dump yard and the waste would be segregated into degradable and non-degradable. He wanted the councillors to cooperate with the administration to purchase land.
