NALGONDA: Cadres of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led by Cherupalli Sitaramulu staged a dharna at the Revenue Divisional Officer’s office in protest against the distribution of patta certificates for ‘ineligible poor’ here on Saturday. On coming to know that the local MLA K.Venkat Reddy of the Congress forced the officials to arrange a land certificates distribution programme, the CPI (M) cadres descended on the RDO’s office. They alleged that the MLA was allocating plots for his partymen at Mamillagudem, Domalapally, Appajipet and Arjalabhavi without considering the list of eligible beneficiaries submitted by the Communists. ‘False information’
The party MLC criticised the RDO Hari Singh for giving “false information” about the patta distribution programme. “When I had asked him about the programme, the RDO told me that there was no such official programme to distribute house sites. But later he took up the exercise at the behest of the MLA,” Mr. Sitaramulu told reporters. However, by that time a good number of people had gathered at the RDO’s office to get the pattas. The CPI(M) cadres cried foul when MLA Venkat Reddy and ZPTC member G.Mohan Reddy started distribution of the pattas with the help of the RDO and local MRO Mothi Lal without considering the CPI(M) cadre’s objections. The Assignment Committee member and local MPP Naraboina Bhiksham took serious objection to the RDO’s decision and asked him why he was not informed about the official programme. Tension prevailed at the RDO’s office as the Congress and CPI (M) cadres raised slogans against each other. A police contingent was called for to control the mob. Braving the drizzle, the MLC and others staged a dharna at the RDO’s office. More than 300 beneficiaries were given pattas by that time. The RDO, who met the agitating leaders repeatedly apologised to the MLC. The official said that he did not mean to humiliate the MLC.
