BERHAMPUR: Patrapur did not have even a police outpost although it happens to be a block and tehsil headquarters in Ganjam district. The BJP fact-finding team which visited violence ravaged Patrapur has demanded the State Government to open up a police station or at least a police outpost there to restore confidence among the inhabitants. The members of the team, including its State executive members Kunja Panigrahi, Kanhu Pati and Berhampur mandal president Bijay Samal, at a press conference on Saturday alleged that timely presence of police could have averted the destruction of public property at Patrapur on June 14. According to this team the police team from Jarada did not reach the spot in time with required force which gave scope to miscreants to dare for large-scale violence and . Planned act
They suspected that the destruction of records and files at the block office was not an act of mob but a planned mischief. "The block office is located at a distance of one km from the CHC, where the violence erupted following the death of a youth injured by lightning when no doctor was present", said Mr Panigrahi. The BJP leaders wanted a judicial probe into the incidents at Patrapur incidents. They also opined that police should stop further arrest people in relation to the violence. "Most of the men Patrapur except the old and children are out of the village fearing arrests although agricultural work has started with the monsoon rains", they said.
