‘Address problems faced by women’
Staff Reporter
KOZHIKODE: Inspector-General of Police (Armed Police Battalion) B. Sandhya said the problems faced by women were not their concern alone, but that of society.
Delivering the keynote address at a meet of women writers organised by Poorna Publications here on Friday, Ms. Sandhya said a special police control room exclusively for women manned by women police personnel should be set up in the State.
She said Kerala society should develop a sense of respect towards women who ventured out and did things smartly. She said only strong women could rear a bold generation useful to the country. If a woman is afraid to venture out, how can she instill courage into her child, she asked.
Earlier, introducing the topic ‘Social issues faced by women’ at the meet, P.B. Lalkar, journalist, said women faced problems in several fields. Dowry was still a problem. Women faced sexual harassment at the workplace, she said. Nalappatt Sulochana, writer inaugurated the meet.
Srikumari Ramachandran, writer, presided. A host of books of women writers were released on the occasion.
