Power generation suspended
Staff Reporter
PATHANAMTHITTA: Heavy rain continued in the eastern forest tract of
Pathanamthitta district, forcing the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) to
suspend power generation at the Moozhiyar power house of the Sabarigiri
hydro-electric project for the second time in 48 hours.
According to official sources, the power generation at Sabarigiri was
resumed at 7.30 p.m. on Friday, after a gap of 11 hours. However, it was suspended by 9.30 pm to avoid the tailrace water flowing into Moozhiyar dam, in the downstream, in the backdrop of the heavy inflow from the catchments.
Meanwhile, power generation at Kakkad power house of the Kakkad hydel
project at Sethathode continued in full swing on Saturday.
The small dam across Veluthode in the upstream of Moozhiyar dam was found
overflowing due to heavy inflow from the catchments on Saturday morning.
The KSEB has closed the shutters of Moozhiyar dam at 11 p.m. on Friday following a respite in the heavy inflow from the catchments. Official sources said the water level was lowered to 188.78 metre from 192 metre by 3 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Maniyar barrage of the Pampa Irrigation Project at Maniyar in the downstream of the Kakkad power house began to overflow on Saturday when the authorities failed to open its damaged shutters.
