Monsoon claims a life in Kasaragod

Kasaragod: One person was killed and property worth several crores destroyed in heavy rain in the district on Saturday. Several rivers in the district are in spate and low-lying areas have been inundated.
C.Krishnan, a native of Baloor near Ambalathara, was killed when he fell from a wooden bridge into a flooded canal on Friday night. Udayakumar (20), a native of Kodagu who was fishing on the Thuruthiyil stretch of Chandragiri river is missing since Saturday morning.
More than 60 families on the Thai beach at Kanhangad were shifted to safer places where several houses were damaged in strong winds and tidal waves. Power supply was disrupted in the district for more than 20 hours since Friday morning. Though it was restored in some parts by Saturday evening, a major part of the district continues without power.
Traffic disrupted
Road traffic was disrupted in several areas by landslips and uprooted trees. The traffic on the Kasaragod-Mangalore highway was disrupted for several hours in the morning. It was restored by evening.
The three main rivers in the district Tejaswini, Neelaswaram and Chandragiri are overflowing. Flood waters of Madhuvahini river entered the the Vinayaka temple at Madhoor.
