Awareness rally on chikungunya and dengue taken out

Part of State-wide drive to prevent disease outbreaks



Preventive measure: Municipality workers taking out a rally to create awareness among the public on chikungunya in Krishnagiri on Saturday. —

Krishnagiri: Students and senior officials from the Departments of Education, Health and also from the Krishnagiri municipality took out a massive rally here on Saturday to create awareness among the public on the need to control mosquito breeding and to prevent outbreaks of chikungunya and dengue.

The rally was organized as part of the State-wide drive to prevent the outbreak of chikungunya.

Flagged off by District Revenue Officer V. Mohanraj at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School here, the participants carried placards that stressed the importance of clean environment and protected drinking water.

Handbills carrying information on the precautionary measures to be taken during outbreaks were also distributed during the rally.

They also asked the public to cooperate with the district administration in keeping surroundings clean. Students representing schools and colleges, as well as NCC and NSS volunteers took part in the rally which passed through important thoroughfares and culminated at Pazhayapet.

In Dharmapuri district, the awareness rally was flagged off by Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal. It passed through important lanes and culminated in the Adhiyaman Government Boys Higher Secondary School.

The Collector said that 1,685 teams had been formed to create awareness among the public on chikungunya.

The team members would educate the public to keep their surroundings clean and to change water once in two days.

Health workers were involved in source reduction and disposal of wastewater from coconut shells, tins, unused tubes and containers.
