Horatti indicates bringing in changes in SSLC syllabus

1,200 teachers to be appointed soon

Chikkodi: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti has indicated bringing in changes in the SSLC syllabus, which is under consideration of the State Government.

He was speaking at a function organised to mark Chikkodi Education District topping in the annual SSLC examination 2007 in the State, here on Saturday. Sri Allam Prabhu Swamiji and Sri Shoonya Sampadane Swamiji graced the occasion. Dattu Hakyagol, MLA, presided over the function. In-charge Deputy Commissioner Vijaykumar Torgal and Deputy Director of Public Instruction R.C. Halgatti were present.

Mr. Horatti, who did not elaborate on the proposed changes in the SSLC syllabus, said the State had shown qualitative improvement in primary and high school, and pre-university education and jumped to ninth from 21st position in the country. This was possible because of several measures initiated for overall improvement in the education system at school and pre-university levels.

Stating that the Janata Dal(S)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government was all set to register a new record by appointing 31,000 teachers in one year, he said 25,000 teachers had been appointed and 1,200 more would be recruited soon. Steps were being taken to promote teachers in schools as headmasters and headmistresses.

The Minister, who complimented the officials, teachers and students for their performance in the annual SSLC examination 2007, wished that the latter continued to strive to achieve excellence and sustain it to remain top in the State.

He said the Government was trying its best to develop a congenial and inspiring environment in schools by improving infrastructure. A sum of Rs.128 crore had been earmarked for repair and renovation of government schools and pre-university colleges, he added.

Minister for Horticulture Shashikant A. Naik said that the quality of school education in the State had improved under the present Government.
