Tree-fall kills three near Hassan bus stand

The tree broke in the middle following heavy winds

Havoc: Many trees were uprooted and power supply disrupted following heavy winds in Hassan on Saturday.
HASSAN: Three persons were killed and three injured when a coconut tree fell near of a bus that was parked at the KSRTC stand here.
The deceased have been identified as Geetha (30), a resident of Hagalahalli; Kavyasri (17), a first PUC student of AVK College and a resident of Doddakanagilu; and Seema (17), also a first PUC student of the same college.
They were waiting for bus around 1.45 p.m. when the tall tree located on Kasturba Road broke in the middle and fell, crushing them to death.
The injured are Shailaja (17) of Mudlapura, Shoba (17) of Mudlapura and Rashmi (17) of JV Halli, all first PUC students of AVK college. They have been admitted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. Heavy winds on Friday night and Saturday disrupted power supply. In many residential areas, there has been no power since Friday night. Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation Executive Engineer Sathyanarayana said work was on to replace broken wires and power supply would be resumed in stages.
