Monsoon fury: A view of the flooded road at Bhavikatti Plot in Dharwad on Saturday.
HUBLI: Incessant rain since Friday evening has affected life in the twin cities and other areas of Dharwad district.
No casualty
Though no casualty has been reported, complaints of waterlogging in low-lying areas have been received from several places.
Durgada Bail, Koppikar Road, and Broadway in Hubli were not crowded as usual as most people stayed indoors because of the rain. It was no different on Subhash Road in Dharwad.
The usual rush in front of cinema halls was not seen on Saturday afternoon.
Schools and colleges functioned as usual.
‘Undeclared’ holiday
However it was a “undeclared” holiday for students of Government Primary School at Ganeshpet in Hubli. The reason was the damage to the roof of the school building caused by rain.
Schoolchildren had to drain rainwater out of their classrooms. The incessant rain has helped farmers of the district who were waiting for it after completing sowing.
Most of them had put off their plans to buy seeds and fertilizers in the absence of rain for past few days.
“This is a good sign for farmers. They have received rain at the right time. Hubli taluk has received 38 mm rain since Friday evening,” according to Dharwad tahsildar Vinayak Joshi. The purchase of seeds and fertilisers by farmers is likely to gain momentum from Monday.
