Rain claims one life in Bellary

BELLARY: Incessant rain, which has been lashing Bellary city and other parts of the district for over 36 hours, has claimed one life. Damage has been caused to public and private property.
Shamabai (70) was buried alive on Saturday when the roof of her house collapsed in Basavanakunte area. Several low-lying areas have been flooded and in KHB colony on Moka Road, water has gushed into several houses. There are pools of water on roads at several places, putting commuters to hardships.
People were forced to remain indoors for the past two days due to inclement weather.
Houses damaged
According to preliminary information reaching the district headquarters, 20 sheep, an ox and a buffalo were killed and over 674 houses damaged in the district.
In Bellary taluk, 112 houses were partially damaged and in Siriguppa, it is 547. In Hospet, 15 houses were damaged.
Bellary district received an average rainfall of 66 mm during the past 24 hours.
The highest rainfall was recorded in Sirguppa (164.4 mm) while the lowest in Hadagali (30.6).
Following is the taluk-wise details of rainfall received (in mms): Bellary (71.1); Hadagali (30.6); Hagari Bommanahalli (35); Hospet (66.2);
Kudligi (34); Sandur (65.8) and Siriguppa (164.4).
