Evening OPDs in hospitals from July 2
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: The State Government has issued an order to keep outpatient departments (OPDs) in 367 government hospitals and community health centres open from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. on five days (Monday to Friday) a week from next month.
This is being done so that daily wage workers and office-goers who need to can visit the OPD in the evening. OPDs in most of the hospitals now operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Minister for Health and Family Welfare R. Ashok told presspersons here on Saturday.
As many as 152 community health centres and 139 taluk, 24 district and 42 general hospitals will keep their OPDs open in the evening from July 2.
For attending to patients in the evening, doctors will be paid Rs. 300 a day, and nurses, paramedical staff and group D employees will be paid Rs. 100. The move will cost the Government an additional Rs. 31.48 crore a year.
The evening OPD service will not be available on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
